It is with great pleasure therefore that Hydra Projects via Bob Prophette at Circus of the Mind has been invited to construct a crucifix made of self help books for Festival 23 in July 2016.
The crucifix will contain a hand picked selection of books that offer immediate or very rapid solutions to often intractable problems; books where a compelling number of steps (7?) seems more important than the content of the advice; where the fly jackets contain testimonials by other leaders in the church of self help and where words like "miracle," "revolutionary" and "unprecedented" pepper the pages drawing readers in to what ultimately will be almost impossible to deliver.
Eventually the crucifix will be set alight (hopefully at a compliant literature festival) but until then join the ranks of festival 23 punters as they take their opportunity to be whipped and to whip others on the crucifix of self help books.
In preparation for this inaugural unveiling of the crucifix, Trading Standards officers from Sheffield City Council have been invited to give their view on the claims in the books and you too can vote on them - based on the claims on the back-covers.
Ahead of the ritual burning, the authors themselves will be asked to provide evidence about their claims in order to remove their books from the impending conflagration.
